Poems seems to follow super tight rules, or none at all depending on who explains what poetry is 😛 But really it's the audience and the medium. Rhythm and rhyme make it much easier to remember and recite, and poetry was only passed down orally for a long time! Spelling also wasn't standardized well into the 16th century and depended on authors and publishers even after that.
